december 2008
december 26 2008 11:53 est also, worst air travel EVER.
december 26 2008 11:22 est cool, first post from the new laptop...
december 14 2008 9:25 pst all yesterday afternoon, and then through most of the night (which starts at like 4:30 around here this time of year) the local news was running stories about the IMPENDING DOOM OF FOUR INCHES OF SNOW that was supposed to fall last night. "whatever shall we do?" lamented the newscasters. they interviewed the snow-plow drivers and showed stock footage of places where there actually was snow on the ground. the weather girl wrung her hands and begged viewers to check their tires and stock up on staples like dog food and pellets for their pellet stoves.
this morning? 38 and rainy. no snow. somehow, we have lived to fight another day.
december 12 2008 22:04 pst patents today went rather better than fed tax did on wednesday- although this test was much shorter and more manageable than that one was. i guess the lesson i need to take from this is that my preparation time is best spent by putting together an epps-style step-by-step analysis for each type of problem i could face on an exam: given a problem of type x, how should i attack it? unfortunately it's about four days too late for that insight to make any difference this term.
cold tonight, and it's supposed to start snowing tomorrow. they're prediciting 2-4" on the valley floors (here) and up to four feet in the moutains. good news for the ski areas, which haven't had a single day open yet this year. today it really feels like winter.
december 10 2008 11:41 pst that was horrible. i hope i didn't just fail it. all i can say is, maybe i did well enough on the multi-choice to make up for totally bombing the essays.
december 8 2008 00:12 pst cold here. cold enough that there was frost on the grass on saturday morning, but not quite cold enough to kill the nastursiums.
last week's exam went pretty well i think- said what i wanted to say, didn't leave any blanks, added enough detail, could have used another 10 minutes on the last question but that's pretty much par for the course with the way i do these things. big presentation on thursday went ok too, so now all i have left is tax on wednesday and patents on friday. the last one is the one i'm most worried about now, but i'm going to have to try to turn my mind to tax stuff starting tomorrow.
december 2 2008 21:25 pst first real final exam of this term is tomorrow morning- individual bankruptcy, title 11 chapters 7 and 13. i had a paper due for patent litigation the monday before thanksgiving, and that was a challenge to get done, but finals are just ... different. for this one, i'm not as prepared as i'd like to be, but i'm also more prepared than i thought i would be. and now i've reached the point where sleep is more important than any more cramming could possibly be, so it's time to cross my fingers, hit the sack, and hope for the best.
but i'm not proud. so if you have good vibes you can spare, please send them my way.
