january 2009
january 21 2009 16:04 pst the last week was pretty crazy but we're starting to settle into a routine. i drop him off, she picks him up, in between we do our thing and it seems to be working out OK. he had a cold last week, and so did i, and wow did it keep us awake when he sounded like he was choking to death on his own snot. one night we were both so loud, p made us both sleep on the couch...
anyway, we're both getting better now. and school is shaping up to be pretty interesting this term- lots of practical stuff. more as time allows.
january 12 2009 22:09 pst first day of classes hoorah. this term is going to be fun.
january 10 2009 13:05 pst update: this is the third year in a row that we've lost at least one day due to bad airline behavior. and third time is, as they say, the charm.
january 10 2009 13:05 pst classes finally start up again on monday. we had an extra-long break this year; the rumor is that the school admin is trying to slowly push dates out in order to make space for a "winter term" class schedule of super-compresed classes during a week of december and then a couple of weeks of january. i don't understand the politics or the pros/cons except that it might be another revenue opportunity for the school... and it will cramp the final exam schedule even more than it already is. i think it's bizarre, almost unfair, that we don't have a full "dead week" in between the end of classes and the beginning of exams. if they do shorten the exam period without pushing the date for the first day of exams back, i don't envy the students stuck with that schedule next year.
we celebrated the end of the break last night with a little dinner party. i got to play in the kitchen all afternoon, couldn't be happier. we had puff pastries for starters with ham and white beans and asiago cheese, a little salad, a big turkey with wild rice dressing, kale with shallots, mushroom gravy, and baked apples for dessert. i still don't plan to open a restaurant. our friends came over and brought their son, who is about three months older than david is- that's them together in the picture on the right... couple of little troublemakers, that's for sure.
we also had our 4-month checkup yesterday. little david is 25.5 inches and 14.5 pounds now, and he's grumpy as hell today becuase he got a couple of shots in his legs when he least expected it. but on the upside, the doc gave us the go-ahead to start feeding him simple cereals, so we're going to try some rice slurry stuff in the next day or two and see how he likes it.
i still haven't calmed down enough about our air travel fiasco to really write it down. but i have to make sure to take the time to write the letter to united this week because once school starts i just won't have time.
